Global climate change has already had observable effects on the environment. Both nations are committed to taking real action to fight climate change while growing the economy and creating good jobs. This includes working together to reduce pollution, protect nature and biodiversity, and collaborating on critical minerals and clean energy.
Here are some action items on how U.S. and Canada plan to achieve their mutual climate objectives.
- Strengthen the implementation of the Paris Agreement and support its goal to limit global temperature increase to 1.5 degrees Celsius (34.7 degrees Fahrenheit) and encourage other nations to achieve net zero emissions no later than 2050.

- Launch a High Level Climate Ministerial, which will coordinate cooperation between the U.S. and Canada to increase ambition aligned with the Paris Agreement and net-zero objectives.
- Reduce oil and gas methane emissions to protect public health and the environment, as guided by the best science.
- Work together with Indigenous peoples, sub-national governments, workers, and stakeholders including civil society, youth, business and industry to highlight the importance of advancing shared climate solutions and protecting nature.
- Take aligned and accelerated policy actions, including efforts to achieve a zero-emissions vehicle future, given the integrated nature of the road transport, maritime, and aviation sectors.
