Arun Alexander was appointed as the Deputy Head of Mission to the Embassy of Canada to the United States of America in August 2022.
He began his public service career at Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada in 1995. Subsequently, Mr. Alexander represented Canada abroad as Trade Commissioner at the Canadian High Commission to Singapore from 1998 to 2001; as Counsellor (Agriculture, Fisheries and Environment) at the Canadian Mission to the European Union from 2005 to 2009; and as Minister (Commercial) at the Canadian Embassy to Japan from 2014 to 2019.
In Ottawa he has held a number of senior positions including, Director of the Office of the Deputy Minister of International Trade from 2010 to 2012; Director General of the Trade Law Bureau from 2012 to 2014; Director General of North American Trade Policy and Chief Air Negotiator from 2019 to 2021 and as the Associate Assistant Deputy Minister of Trade Policy and Negotiations from 2021 to 2022.
Mr. Alexander holds a BSc (Biology) from the University of British Columbia, a BA (Economics) from the University of Victoria, and a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) from the University of Alberta.
