There is no better way to celebrate the long-standing friendship between Canada and the United States than to bring people together. We are pleased to showcase a collection of events happening in and around Washington, D.C. that celebrate Canadian music, art and culture. Rafael Lozano-Hemmer, Pulse

In the Hirshhorn’s largest interactive technology exhibition to date, three major installations from Rafael Lozano-Hemmer’s Pulse series come together for the artist’s DC debut. A Mexican Canadian artist known for straddling the line between art, technology, and design, Lozano-Hemmer fills the Museum’s entire Second Level with immersive environments that use heart-rate sensors to create kinetic and audiovisual experiences from visitors’ own biometric data. Over the course of six months, Pulse will animate the vital signs of hundreds of thousands of participants.

Jeremy Dutcher is a classically-trained Canadian Indigenous tenor, composer, musicologist, performer, and activist, based in Toronto, Ontario. This classically trained operatic tenor takes every opportunity to blend his Wolastoq roots into the music he creates. He is most noted for his album Wolastoqiyik Lintuwakonawa, which won the 2018 Polaris Music Prize.

A Sense of Community: Canadian and American Quilters

Looking to celebrate Canada’s sesquicentennial, a group of textile artists got together and created quilts representing Canada’s history, geography, and culture. The Embassy is proud to display these works of art, paired with the American quilts they inspired.
