Film Screening: Il Pleuvait des Oiseaux

The Consulate of Canada in Chicago has partnered with the Chicago International Film Festival (CIFF) and Telefilm Canada to offer a virtual screening of acclaimed Quebec director Louise Archambault’s film AND THE BIRDS RAINED DOWN. It was a selection at numerous international film festivals this past year and has been named by the Toronto festival as one of Canada’s top 10 films of 2019. The film will be available for streaming until July 25. (Cost $12 with 50% of all proceeds supporting the CIFF).
BONUS: On Thursday, July 2nd, CIFF will hold a virtual Q&A with the director of 7PM Central. That event will be free and available through the links on the CIFF web page.

Commemoration Day Sunrise Ceremony

Honour the Battle of the Somme with a sunrise ceremony tradition, hosted by US Branch #25 of the Royal Canadian Legion, representing the San Francisco Bay Area. While the first day of July is a celebration in most of Canada, for Newfoundland and Labrador it is also a day for sombre remembrance as it is also Commemoration Day (also known as Memorial Day), when we remember the tragically destructive events of July 1st, 1916.
The 45 minutes service will be broadcast on Zoom at 6 am PT. The ceremony will be replayed at 10 am PT.

A Toast to Canada Day

The Consulate General of Canada in Boston is working with local partner The Canadian Entrepreneurs of New England (The CENE) to host a virtual wine tasting of Canadian wines at 6pm EDT on July 1st in honor of Canada Day. There will also be a cocktail demo featuring Newfoundland-made Crystal Head vodka. This is a ticketed event (participants will receive a bottle of Canadian wine in the mail to enjoy during the tasting) with a portion of the proceeds going to the United Way Centraide Canada and the United Way of New England.
