The Comic Art of Lynn Johnston Exhibition

The Comic Art of Lynn Johnston exhibition contains artefacts and drawings which show Lynn’s influences and early illustrations, and the surprising, real-life inspirations behind her beloved characters and storylines. The event is free of charge.

The 120 Years of Panel and Pages exhibition at the Library of Congress features illustrations from some Canada’s most famous comic artists, notably Joe Shuster (Superman) and Lynn Johnston (For Better or For Worse). Their pieces will remain on display for a year and is free of charge.

Come From Away

The Canadian hit Broadway musical, Come From Away, will be at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts until early January. The Tony-nominated production tells the true story and series of events that occurred in the town of Gander in Newfoundland and Labrador following the attacks of September 11th, 2001. Tickets range between $49 and $169.

Porte Parole: The Assembly

Following the 2016 United-States Presidential election, the Montreal-based theater company, Porte Parole, created a new production in which four strangers discuss their different political views. This further inspired, The Assembly, which is the same concept, except with very-real participants instead of actors. The production will be returning for its third edition at The Kogod Theater, and will address the topic of liberalism and identity politics on university campuses. Regular tickets are $25, while student and other discounted tickets are $10.

I Take Your Hand in Mine

Join the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop for a production of “I Take Your Hand in Mine” from Toronto’s Chekhov Collective and Theatrus. The play tis based on the love letters of Anton Chekhov and Olga Knipper and traces the passionate relationship between the world famous dramatist and Russia’s leading actress. Canadian Brass is a brass quintet created in Toronto, ON, in 1970 by five original members. The only original member that remains today is the tubist, Charles Daellenbach. On December 19th, he will be joined by four other musicians: Chris Coletti, Jeff Nelsen, Achilles Liarmakopoulos, and Caleb Hudson. Tickets can be purchased through Soundkick or the Museum of the Bible for $60.
