The Comic Art of Lynn Johnston exhibition contains artefacts and drawings which show Lynn’s influences and early illustrations, and the surprising, real-life inspirations behind her beloved characters and storylines. The event is free of charge.

The 120 Years of Panel and Pages exhibition at the Library of Congress features illustrations from some Canada’s most famous comic artists, notably Joe Shuster (Superman) and Lynn Johnston (For Better or For Worse). Their pieces will remain on display for a year and is free of charge.

Haitian-Quebecois author and storyteller, Marie-Célie Agnant, will be participating in Howard University’s International Conference on African/Diaspora Migrations, Displacements and Movements: Histories, Politics and Poetics. She is recognized for her literary work, which includes poems, novels, novellas, as well as children literature. In 1998, her book Silence Like Blood was nominated for the Governor General’s award. Admission to this event is free.

The Canadian folk trio, Wailin’ Jennys, founded by Nicky Mehta, Ruth Moody, and Heather Masse, will be kicking off their 2019-2020 tour in Alexandria, VA, in early November. The group first performed together in Winnipeg, Manitoba and have since performed across Canada and the United States. Tickets for their Virginia show are $49.50 each.

The American-Ukrainian film, Anton, will play at the Jewish Film Festival near Dupont Circle, early this month. The film, which is based on the novel from the former Canadian Consular General to Denver, Dale Eisler, tells the story of the violence and persecution experienced in Ukraine in 1919. American Award and Golden Globe nominated director, Zaza Urushadze, shares this story with his audience through the friendship of two boys coming from different cultural backgrounds. Entry to the screening is $13.00.

Cirque du Soleil will be coming back to the DMV area with a new production – AXEL. This on-ice experience will illustrate the adventures of a young artist as he navigates life alongside his friends and discovers love at first sight. Be prepared for six amazing performances, complete with spectacular light projections, great music, and jaw-dropping acrobatic skating. Tickets start at $44 for adult admission, and $33 for child admission. Military, student, and senior discount are also offered to the public.
