In October 2017, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau named Bob Rae as his Special Envoy to Myanmar. As Special Envoy, Mr. Rae is focused on the humanitarian crisis affecting the Rohingya. He issued a report last April, with recommendations to the Government of Canada on ways to alleviate the humanitarian crisis, encourage positive political developments, ensure accountability for the crimes committed, and enhance international cooperation.
In meetings in Washington, D.C. with members of Congress and other policymakers, Hon. Bob Rae encouraged the international community to work together to solve this crisis. In a video recorded at the Embassy, he emphasized, “This isn’t going to work if we all go off in different directions. We’ve got to bring our policy together and we’ve got to do that in order to really have an impact on what is a tremendous humanitarian crisis.”
